Our governors

Co-chair: Alex Pettitt – Co-opted

I became a Governor in 2017 for the Federation of St Mary's & St Thomas of Canterbury and was Co-Chair from Summer 2020 and then more recently Chair.  I continue this role with the St Boniface Federation.  My two children, attended St Thomas of Canterbury. I work part-time as a secondary school teacher. Despite being a teacher for over fifteen years I have found being a Governor a learning curve - one which I have thoroughly enjoyed and I look forward to being part of the St Boniface Federation.

Vice-Chair Maureen Etheridge – Foundation

"I am a retired headteacher, living in Freshwater.  I have spent most of my career working in schools in Kent and Suffolk and took up my final post here on the Isle of Wight. Since I retired, I continue to fulfil my interest in education by volunteering at St Saviour's Catholic Primary School. I very much enjoy being a member of the Governing Body and relish the opportunity of being involved in education and working as part of the team to serve the St Boniface Federation".  Maureen is a member of the Finance & Staffing Committee as well as the Curriculum and Data Committe, she is our Vice Chair with functional responsibility for Catholicity  across the Federation and Health & Safety at St Saviours'.

Katie Giannotta – Foundation

Katie has been appointed as a Foundation Governor. She moved to the Island from Surrey with her husband and two young boys.  “When I’m not mothering, I am a keen gardener and enjoy many crafts. I look forward to becoming more involved in the community at St Thomas of Canterbury as my boys progress through school and getting to know St Saviour's and St Mary's through Governance. Katie has functional responsibility for Mental Health & Wellbeing and is also a member of the Admissions Committee.

Angel Hewkin - Foundation

Angela is retired Headteacher with a wealth of knowledge in the school leadership and education.  She is a member of the Curriculum and Data Committee and the Pay Committee.  Angela has functional responsibility for SEND and Health & Safety at St Mary's.

Sian Hitchcock - Staff

Sian is the Preschool Leader at St Mary's Preschool.  Sian has worked within this field and also as a Learning Support Assistant, working with SEN children.  Sian has a functional responsibility for EYFS across the Federation.

Fr Nishan Edward - Foundation

Father Nishan joins us from the Parish and has functional responsibility for Catholicity.

Juan Vicente - Foundation

Juan is a successful Island business man and has previously been a member of the governing body of another Island secondary school.   Juan is a member of the Finance & Staffing Committee. 

Carol Bray - Foundation

Carol is a Freshwater Parish Councillor. She has functional responsibility for Looked After Children, Safeguarding & SCR and Attendance.  Carol is part of the Finance Committee and the EHT Performance Management Committee.

David Callender - Foundation

David is retired following 37 years working in the field of education: teaching, management and inspection.   David is the Chair of the Finance & Staffing Committee and the Pay Committee.

Rebecca Salter - Parent

Rebecca is a busy working mother and works within the education sector.  Rebecca is a member of the Preschool Committee.

Maggie Sanderson – Executive Headteacher

As our Executive Headteacher Maggie works very closely with the Governing Body, ensuring open communication.  Maggie is an active member of all committees with delegated responsibility to the Heads of School for the Curriculum & Data Committee.
